Planning PCB with a large group.
Getting Around Panama City Beach During Spring Break
Panama City Beach is spread out along a long, narrow strip — the beach side runs about 17 miles from end to end. During spring break, the main action zone is concentrated in a 4–5 mile stretch, but you’ll still need to move between venues, restaurants, and your hotel.
Here’s how transportation actually works during spring break.
Walking
If you’re staying on or near Front Beach Road between Pier Park and the Thomas Drive area, you can walk to most major venues. The main party zone spans about 3–4 miles. Walking between clubs during a bar crawl is totally normal and often faster than waiting for a ride.
The reality check: Walking is great at 10 PM. At 2 AM, after hours of dancing and drinks, that same 20-minute walk feels like a marathon. Plan your exit strategy before you go out.
Uber and Lyft
Both services operate in PCB during spring break, and they’re the default transportation for most visitors.
Daytime: Normal pricing. A ride from one end of the strip to the other runs $8–$15.
Nighttime (before midnight): Slightly elevated pricing but manageable. $10–$20 for most trips.
Late night (1–3 AM): Surge pricing is real and painful. When every club dumps thousands of people onto the street at the same time, demand spikes and a 10-minute ride can cost $25–$40+. This is the single biggest transportation frustration during spring break.
Tips to beat surge: Leave 15–20 minutes before last call to beat the rush. Or wait 30–45 minutes after close for surge to normalize. Walk a few blocks away from the club — surge pricing is often highest at the exact pickup point where everyone is requesting. Coordinate with your group to share rides.
Bay Town Trolley
The free trolley service runs along the beach corridor and is a solid daytime transportation option. Routes cover most of the main strip and connect to Pier Park, major hotels, and beach access points.
Limitations: The trolley stops running in the evening, so it’s not useful for nightlife transportation. Frequency can vary, and during peak spring break, trolleys can be crowded.

Bikes and Scooters
Several shops along the strip rent bicycles and electric scooters by the hour or day. Bikes run $15–$30/day, scooters slightly more.
Great for: Daytime beach cruising, getting to restaurants, and exploring beyond walking distance without the cost of rideshares.
Not great for: Getting to clubs at night (no secure parking) or riding after drinking.
Rental Cars
If you drove to PCB, you already have wheels and this isn’t an issue. If you flew in, renting a car is useful if you want to visit St. Andrews State Park, explore restaurants off the main strip, or make runs to the grocery store and liquor store without paying for rideshares.
Pricing: Expect $40–$80/day during spring break, with availability tightening during peak weeks. Book early.
Parking: Most beachfront hotels and condos include parking. Street parking along the strip can be challenging during peak hours. Pier Park has a large free lot.
The Best Strategy
For most spring breakers staying on the strip, the optimal transportation mix is walking for anything within a mile, the trolley for longer daytime trips, and Uber/Lyft for nighttime returns — with surge-avoidance tactics to keep costs down.
If you’re staying off the strip (Back Beach Road, Highway 98), a rental car or designated driver arrangement is close to essential.
